The Civil War 150th Anniversary
-This site encompasses the collaboration between Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee centered around the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War



HISTORIC HIGH COUNTRY - Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, just north of Atlanta, the Historic High Country includes 17 counties rich in history, tradition, and beauty.




GORDON LEE MANSION
- Completed in 1847, used by Union forces and as a hospital during the Battle of Chickamauga, still standing today.




LEE AND GORDON'S MILLS - The mill was occupied by both Confederate and Union armies. The Confederate under General Bragg the first few days of September 1863. Later September 19, 20 1863, General Rosecrans stationed a detachment at the mill to prevent Confederates from crossing the creek.


CHICKAMAUGA CAMPAIGN HERITAGE TRAIL - Civil War historic driving route following the armies of the blue and gray to the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863.

CHICKAMAUGA-CHATTANOOGA NATIONAL MILITARY PARK - Chickamauga Battlefield just north of the City honors the soldiers who fought September 19-20, 1863.

 

CHICKAMAUGA CITY SCHOOLS - The first graduation consisted of one student, Leon Wiley, in 1917.  Today, the schools are consistently ranked among the state's best and is one of the few city school systems remaining.

 

CHICKAMAUGA PUBLIC LIBRARY - with over 25,000 materials and six internet ready computers that also have the complete Microsoft Office Suite installed; a great place to visit and enjoy.

FRIENDS OF THE PARK - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting public support for the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park

GEORGIA CIVIL WAR -The Georgia Civil War Commission was created by the 1993 Georgia General Assembly. It's mandate, as spelled out in Senate Resolution 21 is"to coordinate planning, preservation, and promotion of structures, buildings, sites, and battlefields associated with this significant period of our common heritage"

WALKER COUNTY GOVERNMENT - Growing, but at a rate that maintains a balance of industry, homes, and the natural beauty of the area.

WALKER COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE- Enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Walker County.

GEORGIA MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION - A voluntary, non-profit organization that represents municipal governments in Georgia.

Booth Museum

This 80,000 square foot Museum opened in August 2003 with main galleries featuring contemporary Western American art. Other galleries feature Civil War art, Presidential portraits and letters, Western movie posters, and Western illustration. Sagebrush Ranch is an interactive gallery where children of all ages can learn about art and Western America. The Museum’s Special Exhibit Gallery hosts three to five temporary exhibits per year.
